Introduction

The National Service Scheme  was started by Government of India , Ministry of Education and culture, Govt. of India, in collaboration with state government in the year 1969 in 37 selected universities. At present around 320 colleges of our university are implementing this scheme through 320 units with a student strength of 40,000. There are more than 45 lakh Volunteers in the Nation, One of the Largest Youth Movement in the World.

Motto of NSS - “Not Me But You”

The expression stands for two things:

1. Forgetting and surrendering the self, and Rendering selfless service to others.
2. The word “Not” before “Me” is to reduce the self to nothing and the Word “But” before “You” can be expanded as follows: –  “I do not live for me but for you.” “The world is not only for me but to you also.”

Vision

The vision  is to build the youth with the mind and spirit to serve the society and work for social uplift of the down-trodden masses of our nation as a movement.

Objectives

The main objectives of National Service Scheme (NSS) are :

  1. Understand the community in which they work.
  2. Understand themselves in relation to their community.
  3. Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem-    solving.
  4. Develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility.
  5. Utilize their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems.
  6. Develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities.
  7. Gain skills in mobilizing community participation.
  8. Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes.
  9. Develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters.
  10. Practice national integration and social harmony.
